August is an ecological researcher with interests in species distribution modelling and the use of biological repository data. He completed his Master of Science degree at The University of Melbourne in 2017, with a thesis focusing on the use and performance of ensemble species distribution models. He is currently a PhD candidate also at The University of Melbourne, and his PhD thesis deals with the determination of fungal biogeography in Australia, using opportunistically collected repository data and multi-species distribution models. Through his research, August has been interested in advancing the most effective use of biological data infrastructure in Australia – these data offer a unique and valuable opportunity for filling knowledge gaps for the data-poor regions and taxa across the nation.
