Rujiporn Thavornkanlapachai is a research fellow at the University of Melbourne.
Her research focuses on genetic consequences of intermixing between diverged populations in Australian marsupial translocations.
Her past research had investigated both short- and long-term effects of admixture and factors influencing the genetic contributions of parental lineages.
Her current project aims to dissect the genetic and fitness effects of gene pool mixing in the translocations of mountain pygmy possums and eastern barred bandicoots using next generation sequencing. This project will address the general applicability of the gene pool widening strategy for other threatened species.
