The Endangered Kangaroo Island dunnart has been identified as one of the top 20 Australian mammals at risk of extinction. Efforts to recover the species will be greatly helped by filling knowledge gaps about the ecology of the species and how it responds to conservation actions. The mouse-sized carnivorous marsupial has only rarely been seen in the past 20 years and TSR Hub researcher Rosemary Hohnen is on the job working with local partners to develop better monitoring methods for the elusive species, and to evaluate the impact of feral cats on its persistence.
